Good News folks - The application to tear down the Ormond Hotel and erect a gargantuan souless budget hotel in it's place has been denied by An Bord Pleanala.

Hurrah, three cheers for our literary heritage, for James Joyce, for Mannix Flynn, for Judy and Jack and all of the Friends of Gems Joyce.

We are not sure what happens next but the architects and the developers have to go back to the drawing board.

Lets hope that they show a little more care for our cities heritage and the people who have to live beside whatever get's built. But for now it's our quiet victory

A big thankyou to everyone who signed petitions, demonstrated or did anything to help the case.

Yis are only brilliant! : )

Regards, James

Awaiting the decision of An Bord Pleanala regarding the Ormond Hotel

Fingers crossed they will uphold Dublin City Council's decision to keep the Ormond Hotel Facade.
Meanwhile here's a cute little drawing of Joyce by Samuel Beckett accompanied by the cryptic words "What is my (or any) life but preference for the ginger biscuit?" Mental or what?
