Comments and Help needed

I have two pic s in differing styles and I hope to sell one of them to a cafe. Basically I like them both . One is on wood, the darker of the two, the other is on paper which would be redone again on canvas. Most people I've asked like the one on wood and the way that you can see the drawing and the background showing through. Some like the simple bright cheerful style of the one on paper. So if you like one more than the other perhaps you could say which you prefer by leaving a comment. Oh and do you like dislike the "unfinished" look of the one on wood?

Thanks for the help.

James, both are really excellent in my opinion. Well done! However, if I must choose, I tend to marginally prefer the brighter one, although it may not be so easy to transfer it on to wood. Anyway, for what it worth, both of them are brilliant. Perhaps the cafe owner will have his/her own preference.

For me it has to be the one on the wood - the characters seem to have more depth, the unfinished effect kind of reflects the fleeting glances of time spent in a cafe. You don't ever take in all of the detail in a cafe setting - you have captured the key elements, the things that jump out at you!

Love the expressions and the gestures, well done. Somehow the paper one seems flatter, less emotive. But that's just me! Great work James, best of luck!

I prefer the scene on wood. I love the natural warmpt of the grain showing through. I would like to see the unfinished portions better defined though.

Because of the softness of the outline on the left side and bottom corner it fades into the background giving a distended sense of perspective. It's definitely something I'd muse over in a cafe and I love the style.

Hi James,

I don't have any analysis so sorry about that but I prefer the one on wood. For my eye at least. The other one is cool too but if I were to choose 'twould be the first.

Thanks for the thought provoking feedback folks, it has been very beneficial, much appreciated, when I approached the cafe owner he went with the wood version - now
I am frantically trying to finish it off - have switched to using oils to make matters even more complicated as wanted to have more lustre and richness to the look of the image - i love Acrylics but they can be a bit flat at times. Now however the problem might be too much shine - arrrgghh, experiment with technical stuff doesn't always bode well when you are trying to do something in a short time frame - I want to have it finished dry and ready to show him this by this friday. More white spirits less oil...
